The author recalls that the cell currently found on the market is costly, and that the measurements obtained need to be corrected. The earth pressure cell developed at the angers laboratory has been developed with a view to obtaining a cell simple to use and economical to manufacture, as it is not possible to recover the buried cell. A patent has been applied for. The pressure to be measured can be read on a pressure gauge without need for corrections. The Sensor comprises a pneumatic type earth pressure cell with controlled flow, a control and measurement equipment. The cell can be buried at specified levels or fixed in the facing of an engineering structure. the sensor is based on the following principle: a deformable membrane is kept in equilibrium with the earth pressure by means of gas counter-pressure. The advantages and disadvantages of the method are discussed and experiments on embankments in the angers region are described.
