Commuting in a Post-Baby Boomer World

An upsurge in retirements, coupled with workplace trends such as telecommuting, is bound to affect travel on U.S. highways. Other demographic, economic, technological and migration changes will affect the transportation system. Trends suggest that the role of commuting and its impact on transportation may change; a key role for transportation will continue to be improving access to jobs and to workers, but the pace of growth in commuters is likely to be far more modest than it has been in the past.
