PROJECT CONTROL USING CPM

A civil engineer-practitioner of the Critical Path Method (CPM) gives a composite case history of the technique at work. CPM helps for the first time to see the project (design and construction) as a whole. It helps identify timing problems and shows time savings possible from various strategies. The case in point is a high rise hospital at an urban site. Guided by CPM, the Construction Manager conceived a work-around plan involving expedited design of foundations and phased construction and cut threatened delay by five months. Construction was advanced one year when major city agencies did not have funds for the project and based on CPM, the owner advanced funds that the city agreed to repay later. /CE-ASCE/
