This edition of the Clinician's Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers is an update to the Physician’s Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers that was originally developed by the American Medical Association (AMA) under a prior cooperative agreement with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This guide is intended as an aid to health care professionals in identifying older adults who may be having trouble driving and advising these drivers on alternate means of transportation and the necessity of driving cessation. Topics include: Screening and assessment of functional abilities, Clinical interventions, Ethical and legal issues, State licensing and reporting laws, and Medical conditions and medications that may affect driving. The appendices include patient and caregiver educational material, CPT codes, and clinical team resources.
