A SEARCH FOR A BETTER SIGNAL CONTROLLER CABINET

The Santa Clara County Department of Public Works' desire to find one solution to the dual problems of creating a more esthetic instrument for housing traffic signal controllers and providing seats at bus stops has resulted in a cabinet that serves both purposes. All personnel having an interest in the new design were involved in its making: signal maintenance people, architects, traffic engineers, etc. The prototype cabinet, which is now accepted as a design standard, seats five people. An unexpected advantage that has resulted is its lower initial cost. In an effort to improve the urban environment, efficiency and economy have also been achieved in the search for a new signal control cabinet.
