Fuels & emissions
Biofuels: a force for good : a new partnership between Goodfuels, Wartsila and Boskalis is testing the next generation of marine biofuels with a view to enhancing the performance of more demanding, lower quality fuels. Stevie Knight reports -- Embracing ethane : late last year The Motorship reported in-depth on the first of Evergas' Dragon-class ethane carriers. At the Gas Fuelled Ships conference in November 2015 Carlo Contessi, general manager, Wartsila Italia, revealed how the company had adapted its four-stroke dual-fuel engines to run on ethane boil-off -- Finding the balance : balancing chill, pressure and business demands is no easy task for those designing LNG fuel tanks and bunkering vessels, reports Stevie Knight -- ExxonMobil brings mass flow metering to Hong Kong -- Towards a gas-fuelled future : while projections for the growth of LNG as a marine fuel vary widely, there is no doubting either its rapid development in recent years--evidenced by an ever widening range of marine applications--or its role in an increasingly diverse future fuel market. Both were the subject of some insightful presentations and much high-level debate at The Motorship's recent Gas Fuelled Ships conference.
