Pavement Management, Volume 3

This issue contains 12 papers concerned with pavement management. The papers are organized into two parts. The first part covers strength and deformation characteristics of pavement sections. Specific topics include: backcalculation with an implanted inertial sensor; a model for predicting pavement structural number; unbound aggregate permanent deformation models; and dynamic viscoelastic analysis of falling weight deflectometer. The second part covers surface properties and vehicle interaction. Specific topics are as follows: pavement treatment macrotexture and its effect on bicycle ride quality; rubber characteristics and the frictional response of asphalt concrete surfaces; roughness-induced pavement-vehicle interactions; and detecting and correcting localized roughness features. Additional topics include: influence of operating parameters on braking friction and rolling resistance; peak friction prediction model; adaptive spike removal method for high speed pavement macrotexture measurements; and monitoring pavement surface macrotexture and friction.
