One soil type was treated with a medium curing liquid asphalt (I) and mixed with water near the fluffing point and cured at 110 degrees f., compacted, extruded and again cured. Under constant rates of strain (greater than 1 in./min.) the maximum strength increased rapidly, especially at high I content. The deformation was of a non-linear viscoelastic type. When failure occurred the strain value was constant irrespective of the stress which varied linearly with log time at failure. A mechanical model of the behavior is given.
