SOIL-CEMENT FOR THE FOUNDATIONS OF BUILDINGS

The article describes the use of soil-cement instead of the usual 1:5:10 concrete, in the foundations of an experimental school building at the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee. Comparative costs of lean concrete and soil-cement are indicated and it is contended that the latter is both cheaper and stronger. Soil-cement may also replace the brickwork of the wall below ground.
