EFFECT OF STRATIFICATION ON THE BEARING CAPACITY OF FOOTINGS ON SAND

Theoretical and experimental studies have been made of the effect of the presence of a harder strata beneath the level of the footing on the bearing capacity. It is shown that the peak load decreases while the settlements at peak load increase as the distance of the harder strata from the footing level increases.
