A subbase of tar stabilized soil is incorporated in the design of the new Monchhof-Heidelberg autobahn. The Federal Highway Frankfurt-Mannheim, the highway branch, and the Rheinstrasse have a bituminous pavement in the area of the complex junction. The through lanes of the highway, 7.50 m. (25 feet) wide, are surfaced with mastric asphalt, all other lane surfacings being of fine asphaltic concrete. The new highway Monchhof-Heidelberg is surfaced for its whole length including the area of the complex, with a cement concrete pavement.
