STRENGTH ASCENDANCY VERSUS THE YIELD PLATEAU

Results of tests on beams and rigid frames are presented in support of the contention that stress increases should accompany strain increases throughout a plastic strain region equivalent to the yield plateau. The elimination of the yield plateau increased energy absorbing properties and minimized structural damage, if adequately confined compression steel was provided in sufficient amount.
