A NEW DIGITAL DATA ANALYSIS SYSTEM FOR COMMUNITY NOISE EVALUATION

Measurement of noise in a community requires the collection of much data, which is achieved by the use of several instruments. The new Digital Data System comprises a Data Translator, and an Interface. This article describes this instrumentation system in detail and also the current devices for statistical analysis of noise. A brief explanation is given of the single number criterion used to indicate noise levels, noise pollution levels, etc. The Digital Data System is useful in measuring aircraft noise in airport noise studies, in highway noise studies, and construction site noise. Government agencies such as the EPA, HUD, and FHWA can employ the Digital Data System in noise control programs.
