PUMPING--HOW IT WILL GROW

Twenty million cubic yards of concrete were pumped in 1971, 10 percent of the total produced. It is predicted that 50 percent of all concrete will be pumped in 1980. This article examines the pump and the alternative methods: bucket, hoist, buggy, chute or belt conveyor. Standards dealing with mix design and conveying which are unnecessarily restrictive should be modified. There is an immediate need to develop a standard laboratory test for pumpability.
