OFFSET LUMINAIRE SYSTEM - A NEW CONCEPT IN ROADWAY LIGHTING

The offset system offers the potential of safer highways as a result of pole setback and improved lighting quality. Further, it can mean reduced systems cost and increased energy savings. A new offset luminaire currently in production is specifically designed to overcome the deficiencies of conventional systems in lighting high speed thorough-fares. Because of the efficient utilization of lamp lumen output fewer luminaires are required per mile of roadway. This reduction in required fixtures varies between applications, but ranges from 15 to 30 percent. In addition to conserving energy, it reduces systems pole, lamp, foundation, and other material and installation costs. Poles and luminaires set back away from the roadway become relatively unobtrusive elements in the visual scene. /DOT/
