HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND TO ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN TRANSPORTATION

This paper outlines some basic principles concerning the importance of social and environmental factors in transport planning, and indicates the changes required in professional organisations and practice to comply with these principles. The planning of a major airport is used as an example to explain the application of the principles, which are also valid for highways, rapid transit and other types of transport. /TRRL/
