EFFECT OF CHLORIDES ON CONCRETE IN HOT AND ARID REGIONS

The penetration and absorption of chlorides into portland cement is much higher than that of sulphates. It is stressed that chlorides enhance sulphate attack. Severe conditions which accelerate corrosion in hot arid areas are described. Laboratory experiments on the behavior of clinker and normal portland cement immersed in corrosive solutions for a period of eight years are described.
