In commenting upon the original paper entitled "Constructional Deformation in Rockfill Dam," the writer suggests that the finite element method, together with the more realistic stress-strain relationships at hand, should be used to gain and generalize information on the correlation between some relevant parameters of structural behavior and the indices yields by conventional methods of analysis. In particular, the writer has used this approach to derive the relationship between horizontal displacements and conventional safety factors of embankment slopes.
