NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH INFORMATION SERVICES NETWORK

At the 1974 Annual Meeting of the Highway Research Board, 5 panelists discussed the following aspects of the evolving national network of transportation research information services: user requirements, access to project resumes and document abstracts, access to full-text documents, network coordination, and network support. This report presents the views of one of those panelists. He provides a brief summary of TRISNET rationale and expectations, and then suggests actions that should help to translate TRISNET concepts into reality. Among the actions he suggests are securing a broad base of understanding and support, establishing the framework of operations, and devising a realistic scheme of financing the common services that are required for efficient operation.
