REDUCING NOISE OUTPUT OF AUTOMOTIVE DIESEL ENGINES

Legislation aimed at controlling vehicle exhaust emissions and engine power to gross vehicle weight ratio have adversely affected the noise of currently produced engines, firstly where injection timing advance has been necessary to limit smoke and secondly where increased engine speed has been chosen to obtain the required power. To halt this increasing noise trend further, legislation has been contemplated and introduced to progressively reduce noise of individual vehicles.
