EAST COAST SHIPYARDS: THEIR PROGRESS, THEIR PLANS

The modernization and expansion programs already completed or planned by five major shipyards are described, giving some details of new facilities, work flow and degree of automation. The shipyards covered are--Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, Bethlehem Sparrows Point, General Dynamics-Quincy, Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock, and Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock.
