THE EFFECT OF THE INITIAL STEAM PARAMETERS ON THE WEIGHT AND COST OF TURBINE-BOILER UNITS OF TRANSPORT SHIPS

The effect of initial steam pressure and temperature in the ranges 40--100 atm (abs.) and 470--520C on the weight and cost of turbine-boiler units for transport ships was investigated. The work was done because of the lack of literature data on the effect of initial steam parameters, which is necessary for selection of power units for ships being designed. The ranges studies were considered of greatest interest. The characteristics of the turbine-boiler unit of the Sofiya tanker were taken as starting data. The power range was 19 000--30 000 hp. An increase in the initial steam pressure and temperature increases the weight and cost of the unit. The data presented make it possible to determine in the initial design stages the effect of the initial parameters of the steam and intermediate superheating.
