THE EFFECT OF SHIP HULL ROUGHNESS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYERS

Integral methods for predicting the development of two-dimensional turbulent boundary layers, which can include the effect of surface roughness, are proposed. The method based on the energy integral equation is found to give good agreement with experimental measurements. This method is used to investigate the effect of surface roughness on the separation of a two-dimensional turbulent boundary layer developing over a flat plate with an external pressure distribution.
