Traffic generation was studied in selected suburban residential areas with varying types of settlement, distance to the city of Stockholm, social structure and public transport. Chapter 1 gives information on population, transport, service and working areas. Chapter 2 covers a summary of the general situation in the communities. Chapter 3 reveals the social conditions i.e. social care, number of car owners, average income and number of foreign citizens. Chapter 4 examines public transport as regards frequency of travel to and from the southern suburbs of Stockholm. All bus lines were recorded together with number of passengers per day and at peak hours. Chapter 5 estimates traffic generation with respect to population, car ownership, car utilization, load factor and bus rides per capita. Chapter 6 defines a journey and splits journeys between home-based and other journeys. Finally chapter 7 is an evaluation comprising three sectors: public transport, traffic generation and trips made without motor vehicles. /TRRL/
