The author reviews the tests available to determine a stone's suitability for roadstone purposes, and assesses the value of the results obtained from these tests. The tests reviewed include sampling sieve analyses, aggregate crushing value, 10% fines value. Crushing strength, aggregate abrasion value, polished stone value, aggregate impact value, and flakiness indices. It is stressed that human assessment of the suitability of roadstones is also necessary until more and better tests become available. This paper was presented at a one day symposium at The University of Bristol Extra-Mural Studies Department. /TRRL/
