The results are reported of bump integrator tests carried out in India on the N.H.4 Kolhopur-Poona road and the N.H.3 Bombay-Agra road, to assess riding quality. A roughness index of 250 inches per mile was set as the limit beyond which the road surface was in need of improvement. Resurfacing with 3 in. of bituminous Macadam and 1.25 in. of asphaltic concrete improved the roughness index to between 126 to 220 inches per mile. /TRRL/
