FURTHER PROGRESS IN GERMANY WITH ASYNCHRONOUS TRACTION MOTORS

Interest was aroused very widely with application of asynchronous motors to a prototype diesel-electric by Rheinstal-Henschel and Brown Boverie Cie, Mannheim in 1971, and developments are now going ahead with this concept for direct electric traction. The original DE 2500-1 has now been modified and coupled to a DB electric driving-trailer car which carries the pantograph and collects the 15 kV traction supply to power the locomotive's existing three-phase traction circuit which has hitherto been fed by the diesel-generator group.
