This book is intended to serve as a manual for students of the ship maintenance division in Institutes of Water Transportation Engineers of the Department of the River Fleet and covers the program in the course Theory and Equipment of Ships. General information is given on the navigational and operational properties of modern river transport ships and their main characteristics. The principles of statics and ship strength are presented, and modern hull and superstructure designs of steel, aluminum, concrete, and plastic river ships, as well as their equipment, systems, and main design problems are discussed.
