AUTOMOTIVE REAR END COLLISION TESTS

A series of rear end impact tests was conducted to verify the DOT rear end moving barrier procedure for future rule-making action and to assure the adequacy of repeatable test results. A flat-faced, rigid barrier was used to impact the rear end of various sizes and models of current motor vehicles at speeds up to 30 mi/h. The tests indicated that the procedure would produce repeatable test results. Portions of this document are not fully legible.
