EU’s new tack on cross-border enforcement

The European Union (EU) has revised regulations on traffic violations by foreign drivers. Foreign drivers are often not prosecuted for violations, but EU-wide legislation will help with cross-border enforcement and deter foreign drivers from dangerous behavior. At present, foreign drivers make up about 5% of traffic on the road in EU member states, but account for 15% of speeding offences. Under the new regulations, member states will communicate with each other in order to provide information on the violator in order to prosecute.
