GUIDE TO THE SELECTION AND TESTING OF GRAVEL FOR PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION

Natural soil-aggregate mixtures (referred to generally as "gravels," but more specifically as "gravel-sand-clays") are the most important source of material for the construction of flexible pavements in Australia. In some areas shales and other soft rocks broken or weathered down to form a gravel are also used extensively. This booklet briefly describes the required properties of a gravel used in pavement construction and provides information to help locate and identify suitable material. It also outlines methods which may be used to check the quality of gravel in a deposit and subsequent control testing while the material is being placed in the pavement. /Author/
