Crash Test and Evaluation of the TxDOT T631 Bridge Rail

The TxDOT Type 631 bridge rail is a low-cost replacement for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)'s Type T6 bridge rail in new construction. This article reports on the impact performance of the TxDOT's Type T631 bridge rail. The authors describe the bridge rail and document its performance according to MASH TL-2 specifications. Two crash tests are conducted, one involving a 2270P vehicle and one involving an 1100C vehicle. In both tests, the bridge rail is found to contain and redirect the vehicles, and in neither test does the vehicle penetrate, override or underride the bridge rail.
