HANDY GUIDE TO FRA TRACK STANDARDS
United States railroads are now subject to the track safety standards developed under the Federal Railroad Safety Act of 1970. The initial standards were promulgated by the Federal Railroad Administrator on October 15, 1971; most of them became effective October 16, 1972. In September 1972, FRA issued a notice of proposed rule making to amend the initial standards. After subsequent written comments and a public hearing, a number of amendments were adopted. The reference chart incorporates thes amendments to the initial standards as issued by FRA on December 22, 1972.
