A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF SOME METHODS FOR SHEAR STRENGTH DETERMINATION IN SOIL MECHANICS

An attempt has been made to investigate the relationship between the shear strength values obtained by the unconfined compression test, the vane test and the Swedish fallcone test. The scattering of the test results obtained by the different test methods has been studied, particularly from the point of view of the use of safety factors in soil stability calculations. The variations in shear strength have also been analysed with respect to several other soil characteristics which are usually determined in routine investigations. /AUTHOR/
