This article describes tactical urbanism projects that are being carried out in cities across the United States. These urban planning efforts sometimes require going outside the traditional planning and building system to implement basic plan elements quickly. Initiatives in Raleigh, North Carolina; Memphis, Tennessee; and Los Angeles, California are highlighted.
