THREE 50-KV UNITS ARE WORLD'S FIRST

In January 1973, the world's first three 50,000-volt alternating-current electric locomotive are to begin their journey from the General Electric plant to the location of the Black Mesa and Lake Powell Railroad in Northeastern Arizona. The 6,000-hp E60 units operate under a nominal 50kv catenary but are capable of operation on any voltage down to 25-kv. They operate at commercial frequency, 60Hz. A description of BM&LP operations is given.
