The Transport Research Laboratory (TRL)'s GATEway automated vehicle demonstration is the focus of this article and the ways in which it can support the technology's development and garner public acceptance. Knowledge of psychology and experience with virtual reality simulations were applied to the simulator in order to understand how drivers guide their actions using the visual information available.
