Logging 100 more years

A landmark for local residents for nearly two-hundred years, the Floating Bridge over Sunset Lake in Brookfield, VT is located along the last state-owned gravel road and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As the floats become saturated over the years, along with continuous and costly maintenance, the decision was made to close it to traffic in 2007. The process of replacing and improving upon the bridge with a state-of-the-art fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) pontoon system was completed in May of 2015, led by a design consultant known for its innovation and knowledge of FRP structures. It was built to withstand freeze-thaw conditions, as well as unique loading conditions and combinations.
