The Preparation and Characterization of a Novel Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer with Good Cement Paste Fluidity Performance

A novel polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE) was prepared and its optimum copolymerization conditions were determined by the orthogonal experiments. Then the synthesized PCE with an ester-ether ratio of 1:20 and reacting at 65°C for 2 hours of feeding and 3 hours of holding was contrasted with the commercial conventional PCE. The results showed that the self-synthesized PCE exhibited more excellent cement paste fluidities and retentions at the same dosage, or even fewer dosages to reach similar fluidity performances. Moreover, this PCE was characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectra (FTIR), confirming that the synthesized PCE’s characteristic functional groups and the completion of copolymerization. The molecular weight measurement showed its more effective components with better workability in cement paste at low dosage.
