EXPERIMENTS WITH CHOPPER EQUIPMENT--KESAR
EXPERIMENTATIONS D'EQUIPMENTS A HACHEURS--KESAR
After having made reference to the advantages of electronic equipment for the control of traction motors subjected to considerable stress by repeated starting, the authors describe the experimental equipment known as KESAR (electronic commutators for supply and regeneration), as well as the conditions imposed by the specifications applied by Paris Transport (RATP), and the assembly variations proposed by the manufacturers. Thyristor controls are of fixed frequency, with ultra-rapid circuit breakers. The authors quote the difficulties encountered in regard to traction and regenerative braking, and they hoped for improvements. In present circumstances, no economic advantage is yet seen as a result only of regenerative braking, although, having regard to the very satisfactory results obtained, an extension of the experiments is anticipated.
