In service performance of Steelphalt products
In this report, Transport Research Laboratory evaluates the skid resistance, durability, and polishing resistance of steel slag asphalt. Trial sites with hot rolled asphalt, stone mastic asphalt, and two ultra-thin Steelphalt proprietary products were studied for durability. Skid resistance surveys were conducted using a Sideway-force Coefficient Routing Investigation Machine (SCRIM) and included analysis of higher risk sites such as junctions, crossing approaches, bends, and roundabouts. Laboratory testing using a Wehner-Schulze machine determined the polishing resistance of the steel slag products.
