Numerical Study on the Temporal and Spatial Variation of Sea Water Salinity during the Ice Freezing Period in the Bohai Sea

The salinity of the sea water will increase and accumulate when the sea ice are exploited extensively. Based on the ECOMSED model, a salinity diffusion model driven by tides was constructed to analyze quantitatively the transport and diffusion of the salinity enhancement during the ice freezing period in the Bohai Sea. The results indicate that the ability of the salinity exchange in the Laizhou Bay is the strongest with the salinity decreased by about 78% during the ice freezing period. The ability in the Bohai Bay is weaker than that in the Laizhou Bay and is the weakest in the Liaodong Bay. Through water exchange with the three bays, the central Bohai Sea plays an important role in restraining the salinity in the ice region. There is a net salinity flux from the Bohai Strait to the outer sea area.
