The study reviews the main technical, economic and institutional aspects of various types of air-cushion vehicles, analyzes their advantages and disadvantages in comparison with conventional means of transport, and assesses the potential for the use of air-cushion vehicles in developing countries. Technical requirements are outlined and indications are given of the facilities and equipment desirable or necessary for the operation of air-cushion vehicles and for their maintenance and repair. The desirable and necessary qualifications for personel are outlined together with patterns for recruitment and training. In some cases, the potential uses for air-cushion vehicles may be only for a limited period; indications are therefore given in this study of actual and potential craft charter situations. /DOT/
