This book may be of interest to navigators, ship mechanics, electromechanics, and technical workers of shipping companies. Construction of major ship engines, main and auxiliary steam boilers and additional mechanical machines, their principles of operations and the fundamentals of technical application are discussed. The major portion of the book is devoted to a description of power plants on ships; however, special attention is also given to the newest assemblies such as gas turbines and nuclear power plants. For better comprehension of the working processes occurring in engines and other mechanisms, the fundamentals of engineering thermodynamics are discussed in the first chapter of the book. A special chapter is devoted to the analysis of thechno-economical indices of current power plants.
