A Transit Station Goes Green
Parking facility lighting plays an important role in the safety and security of parking patrons. In this article, a case study of the Foothills Transit Park & Ride Facility in Industry, California is presented. The park-and-ride's five-level parking structure offers parking for commuters traveling to downtown Los Angeles. In an effort to provide energy-efficient and cost-effective parking solutions while also meeting safety and security needs, 249 LED luminaires were installed in and around the parking structure. Foothill Transit has expressed commitment to both innovation and sustainability in parking; to support the latter, it operates 316 buses powered by natural gas, 15 fast-charge battery electric buses, and an electrified bus route.
