Preparing for the Big One
The mayor of Los Angeles (LA) released a resiliency plan that recommends ways to protect the city's buildings, telecommunications systems, and water infrastructure in the case of a significant seismic event by increasing their resilience. The aim is to improve disaster response capabilities, streamline the city's short-term recovery, and protect its economic capacity in the long-term. Due to the city's location along the San Andreas fault, a massive earthquake could affect LA in a similar way to that of San Francisco in 1906.
