FREEWAYS AND CITIES

IN DISCUSSING THE MAJOR CRITICISMS AGAINST FREEWAYS, THE AUTHOR ILLUSTRATES HOW PLANNED AND PROPERLY DEVELOPED FREEWAYS CAN LEAD TO MORE VIGOROUS AND PROSPEROUS CENTRAL CITIES, SERVING THEIR EXPANDING METROPOLITAN COMPLEXES. IN THE AUTHOR'S OPINION, IF CENTRAL CITIES ARE TO REMAIN VITAL, THEY MUST STRIVE TO MAKE THEIR ACTIVITIES AND BUSINESSES AS ACCESSIBLE AS POSSIBLE - AND THIS REQUIRES THE BUILDING OF FREEWAYS INTO THE CITIES AS WELL AS AROUND THEM. /AUTHOR/
