SOME ASPECTS OF ELECTRIC PROPULSION

THE USE OF ELECTRIC POWER IS CONSIDERED FOR PROPELLING TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH ELECTRIC POWER IS THE PRIMARY METHOD OF CONVERTING ENERGY INTO MECHANICAL POWER, THIS APPLICATION IS ALMOST COMPLETELY CONFINED TO STATIONARY SYSTEMS. NEW METHODS FOR THE TRANSFER OF ELECTRIC POWER TO A MOVING VEHICLE ARE DISCUSSED. A LINEAR ELECTRIC MOTOR PROMISES TO DELIVER THE INCREASED LEVELS OF PROPELLING FORCE REQUIRED FOR HIGH SPEED GROUND VEHICLES.
