Goodwood Junction Rail Grade Separation: collaborative D&C success
The Goodwood Junction Rail Grade Separation has removed a major bottleneck on the Adelaide rail network. The design and construct project completed by the Thiess-York Joint Venture (TYJV) for the SA Government Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) has grade separated the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) freight and Belair Passenger Rail line from the twin track Seaford Passenger Rail Line removing the existing at grade conflict between the freight and passenger lines. The grade separation incorporates 2 structures which cross the lowered Seaford Passenger Line; a rail deck carrying the ARTC and Belair Passenger lines and a road deck carrying local road Victoria Street. The project was fast tracked to market in order to capitalise on a planned closure of the Seaford Passenger Line for major track upgrades, signalling and electrification works. An innovative Collaborative Design and Construct (D&C) procurement process was developed and led by DPTI to ensure full collaboration between all parties including major stakeholders. Construction completion was successfully reached just 15 months after the initial industry briefing for the project.
