LAND USE FORECASTING FOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

A LAND-USE FORECASTING METHOD SUITABLE FOR URBAN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING IS DESCRIBED. FOUR CONDITIONS MUST BE MET BY THE MODEL FOR LAND-USE FORECASTING: (1) IT MUST BE A DISTRIBUTIVE PROCESS, (2) IT MUST DEAL ONLY WITH THE NET OF POPULATION AND ECONOMIC ACTIVITY, (3) IT MUST BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO MACHINE PROCESSING, AND (4) THE TRANSPORTATION NETWORK MUST BE MADE EXPLICIT IN THE FORECASTING PROCEDURE. A GRAPHICAL ILLUSTRATION OF THE MODEL IS SHOWN ALSO.
